    Buckling of Thin Metal Structures

    Preface

Thin-shell structures are widely used in many branches of engineering. Examples

include aircraft, spacecraft, rockets, submarines, nuclear reactors, cooling towers,

roofs, tubular towers, silos, tanks, pressure vessels, pipelines and offshore platforms.

The aim of this book is to provide a state-of-the-art summary of existing

knowledge of the buckling behaviour of thin metal shells for which failure by buckling

is often the controlling design criterion. Due to the complexity and diversity

of the buckling phenomena of thin metal shells, no book of a similar nature has

been published for almost two decades.
