Reliability-Based Design in Geotechnical Engineering - Computations and Applications, Kok-Kwang Phoon
Gregory B. Baecher is Glenn L Martin Institute Professor of Engineering
at the University of Maryland. He holds a BSCE from UC Berkeley and
PhD from MIT. His principal area of work is engineering risk management.
He is co-author with J.T. Christian of Reliability and Statistics in
Geotechnical Engineering (Wiley, 2003), and with D.N.D. Hartford of
Risk and Uncertainty in Dam Safety (Thos. Telford, 2004). He is recipient
of the ASCE Middlebrooks and State-of-the-Art Awards, and a member
of the US National Academy of Engineering.
Marc Berveiller received his master’s degree in mechanical engineering from
the French Institute in Advanced Mechanics (Clermont-Ferrand, France,
2002) and his PhD from the Blaise Pascal University (Clermont-Ferrand,
France) in 2005, where he worked on non-intrusive stochastic finite
element methods in collaboration with the French major electrical company
EDF. He is currently working as a research engineer at EDF on
probabilistic methods in mechanics.
Denys Breysse is a Professor of Civil Engineering at Bordeaux 1 University,
France. He is working on randomness in soils and building materials,
teaches geotechnics, materials science and risk and safety. He is the chairman
of the French Association of Civil Engineering University Members
(AUGC) and of the RILEM Technical Committee TC-INR 207 on NonDestructive
Assessment of Reinforced Concrete Structures. He has also
created (and chaired 2003–2007) a national research scientific network
on Risk Management in Civil Engineering (MR-GenCi).
Young-Jae Choi works for Geoscience Earth & Marine Services, Inc. in
Houston, Texas. He received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in 1995
from Pusan National University, his Master of Science degree from the
University of Colorado at Boulder in 2002, and his PhD from The
University of Texas at Austin in 2007. He also has six years of practical
experience working for Daelim Industry Co., Ltd. in South Korea.
