Damage Prognosis For Aerospace, Civil and Mechanical Systems
Preface
From Sunday 19 October 2003 to Thursday 30 October, 2003 a workshop on the topic
of damage prognosis was held at the Praiatur Hotel in Florianopolis, Brazil, as part of
the US National Science Foundation’s Pan American Advanced Studies Institutes
program. This book is an outgrowth of that workshop. Damage prognosis, defined in
more detail in the first chapter, is an outgrowth of structural health monitoring, and is
an attempt to estimate the remaining useful life of a damaged structure when subjected
to various future loads.
