Preface to Part B

This volume completes the two-volume set of the International

Handbook of Earthquake and Engineering Seismology, with

34 chapters, numerous appendices, and two additional

CD-ROMs.

Section VII features eight chapters on strong motion seismology.

Section VIII includes seven chapters on earthquake engineering.

Section IX presents seven chapters on earthquake prediction

and hazards mitigation. Section Xcontains three chapters

(consisting of 84 sub-chapters) of summarized national, institutional,

and international reports to the International Association

of Seismology and Physics of Earth’s Interior (IASPEI) and the

International Association for Earthquake Engineering (IAEE).

Section XI includes detailed descriptions of earthquake seismology

software. The four appendices feature a glossary of seismological

terms, key formulae, biographical sketches, and a user’s

manual for each of the three CD-ROMs.
