Hancock Cold-Formed Steel Structures to the AISI Specification
Preface
This book describes the structural behavior and design of
cold-formed steel structural members, connections, an d
systems. Cold-formed members are often more difficult to
design than conventional hot-rolled members because o f
their thinness and the unusual shapes that can be roll-
formed. Design engineers familiar with hot-rolled design
ca n sometimes find cold-formed design a daunting task.
Th e main objective o f this book i s t o provide a n easy
introduction t o th e behavior o f cold-formed members an d
connections with simple worked examples. Engineers
familiar with hot-rolled design should be able to make the
step t o cold-formed design more easily using this text. Th e
book i s i n line with th e latest edition o f th e American Iron
and Steel Institute (AISI) Specification for the Design of
Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members (1996), including
th e latest amendment (Supplement 1 1999) published i n
July 2000.
