SCI Design of Composite Slabs and Beams
This publication presents a method of design for simple composite beams in buildings. The method is consistent with BS5950 Part 1 and Part 3.1. Design tables are presented to aid selection of the size of steel beams depending on the span and loading, the depth of the concrete slab and shape of the deck profile. Although published in 1989, this publication remains the most up to date summary of composite floor design. It may still be used for preliminary design; the final design should be checked with up to date software.
